Strikers Star Takes Out Top Award

Bankstown District Amateur Football Association (BDAFA) recently held their annual awards presentation night to recognise the achievements of their members. Award categories were Club Volunteer of the Year, Golden Boot Awards for the most goals scored, Player of the Grand Final Awards, Player of the Year awards and the top award of the night was the prestigious BDAFA Volunteer of the Year award.

The top award went to Kylee Freeman who is the Club Secretary of the Bankstown Sports Strikers Football Club. The award as voted by the Board of Directors was in recognition of Kylee’s hard work and dedication throughout the 2016 season.

“Kylee appeared on the scene a number of years ago and was a stand out immediately for her commitment to improve an already strong recognized club.  Her loveable personality makes her easily one of the best volunteers to deal with at club level” stated BDAFA Chairman, Glenn Rufford.

Kylee is a mother of three children and a full time teacher at a local high school but she somehow manages to find time to help operate the large Club.

“After my boys joined Strikers my husband Troy started to assist the Club so I followed suit. At the time I noticed the same people were always at the ground, in the canteen, setting up and pulling down fields. I thought that I could help them. I was soon working in the canteen regularly and helping out when I could.”

The Club considers Kylee as the backbone of the Club as Club President, Jenny Stone explains “She keeps our club running smoothly and fairly, she is so committed to the Club that she rarely goes to watch her own children play their games as she is always at the Crest (home ground) making sure everything is running smoothly.”

Kylee is quite humble in her response to her dedication to the Club “I do it for the enjoyment of the players. It is great to see kids out running around rather than playing computer games and the like.”

Kylee is one of many hard working volunteers that word tirelessly to ensure that all Football Clubs in the BDAFA region are run smoothly to benefit their members.

“The association needs more volunteers like Kylee and by the calibre of the volunteer of the year recipients from all clubs, we are well on the way to achieving the countless numbers of tireless workers that make our association the success it is.” Quoted Mr Rufford.
