Walking Football Coming to Bankstown
Following the successful launch of the pilot Walking Football programs, Bankstown District Amateur Football Association (BDAFA) and Canterbury & District Soccer Football Association (CDSFA) is the next association top introduce the initiative within its footprint.
The program supported by Football NSW and the NSW Government – Family and Community Services, the collaborative pilot program aimed at targeting inactivity in over 50’s and promoting an enjoyable and active social gathering will be facilitated by the Association at the Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre in Riverwood. Club Rivers, Riverwood Community Centre, South West Bankstown Chamber of Commerce and the City of Canterbury – Bankstown have also come on board in supporting the event.
BDAFA General Manager, Shane Merry is excited about the opportunity this initiative presents in his footprint.
“BDAFA is excited to be partnering with a number of key community organisations to run this program. This provides another sector of the community the chance to play football and it’s particularly important as it gives the ageing population the chance to stay fit and healthy”
“We’ve had some great feedback so far in particular from the local community organisations who were very quick to jump on board. I’m hoping this becomes a full time program and the best thing being at an indoor venue is that you don’t need to worry about the weather elements.”
Football NSW Member Services Manager, Matt Rippon echoed BDAFA’s sentiments.
“The interest in this program is growing day by day. I have no doubt with continued sport this will be a permanent offering to our footballing community. We’re fast approaching a structure that offers playing opportunities from age 3 to 80 – a sport for life”
BDAFA’s Walking Football launch event will take place on Monday 4th December – for more information visit www.bdafa.com.au or contact email@example.com
